surgery

I got a call from Jamie, my IVF nurse, this afternoon. She said that Dr. Vaughn had looked at the films from my HSG and he strongly suggests that I have the surgery. I do have to say that I absolutely love Dr. V. If he hadn't ordered the HSG then our chances of getting pregnant again would have been much lower. So, if he says he thinks I should have the surgery then I am definitely going to have the surgery. It is called a hysteroscopy. My friend Taffy called it. She talked me through it this afternoon and made me feel better about the whole thing. So when the nurse called I already had an idea of what she was going to say. They go in with a camera and look at my uterus. Then they fix whatever is wrong. Dr. Vaughn can't tell from the films. It may be polyp or a fibroid. They aren't sure. The surgery is outpatient and it is done at a surgery center in Austin. I will be under twilight anesthesia, just like I was for my ER for my last IVF. There won't even be an incision.

The absolute best news is that it won't set us back very far for the FET. Jamie said we would have to wait until the next cycle, but the surgery coordinator told me that sometimes Dr. V lets you go ahead and do the FET the same cycle! She said it just depends on whether he finds something that he thinks will take a little longer to heal or not. So at best we wouldn't have any delay; at most we would be delayed a month. That's much better than what I was thinking when left to my own devices!

I had a hysteroscopy (sp?) and had to stay over night, but I had 4 fibroids removed. Either way, it's a great thing to move forward and have such a pro like Dr. V doing the surgery. I hope they are able to find what they're looking for, get it and then let you do the FET as soon as possible. How exciting!!!
